A Game To Just Forget

Blue Jays 14, Yankees 8 …

With this loss, the New York Yankees split a four-game series against the Blue Jays in Toronto. But, this was a very successful road trip as the Bronx Bombers (87-50), won five of seven games to remain in first place in the AL East, seven and a half games ahead of the second place Boston Red Sox (79-57).

The Yankees return home to play a Labor Day day/night doubleheader against the Tampa Bay Rays at Yankee Stadium in the Beautiful Bronx.

The big story, of course, is Derek Jeter’s pursuit of Lou Gehrig’s all-time Yankees hit record.

The “Captain” Jeter is four hits away from passing the Yankees first “Captain”, the Iron Horse, Lou Gehrig on the all-time New York Yankees hit list.

Gehrig has 2,721 career hits; and, Jeter with three hits in yesterday’s loss to the Blue Jays, now stands at a total of 2,718 hits.

“Best Wishes” and “Thanks” to Derek for his many great years in Yankee Pinstripes.

And, Best Wishes to all who have visited my blog …

I hope everybody has a very enjoyable Labor Day holiday weekend !!!

We may have lost, but baseball won yesterday. My daughter cannot stop gushing about it – and she has only seem Jeter play for 2 years. (She’s 6 1/2) My father is a proud Yankee fan today. This is a big moment for Derek – and I hope he soaks it in. He deserves it. I have tipped my hat to Jeter many times – starting when I watched him in Triple A – and I again tip my hat to him. Congrats to him, the Yankees and all the fans.

Sorry for not responding to all the above comments sooner … I have been very busy throughout the month of September, and have not been able to write many new posts, or offer as much commentary and responses to comments as I usually do … So, thank you for all your visits to my blog, and, also, for all your great comments and thoughts !!!
Everybody, enjoy all the baseball action in the playoffs and World Series !!!

    Hi, Julia …

Thanks for your nice thoughts, and well wishes to Derek Jeter !!! … Yes, the “Captain” did indeed break Lou Gehrig’s all-time New York Yankees hit record; and, now has his sights on becoming the first Yankee player to get 3,000 hits !!! … Derek Jeter is having a great year [one of his best] … I look forward to Derek continuing his great play and hot hitting in the playoffs and World Series !!! … I hope the Yankees play the Red Sox in the American League Championship Series this year !!! … That series will be exciting to watch, as both of us will be rooting for a different result … But, Yankees vs. Red Sox is a fitting way to end this great 2009 American League season !!!
    Take care, Julia !!!
    Enjoy the post-season !!!

    Hi, Babu …

It has been awhile since I wrote the above post, and at the time the Yankees had an (87-50) record … Now, as of October 1st, our Bronx Bombers are (102-57), going 15-7 since September 7th, clinching first place in the AL East !!! … Also, it was great that the Yankees clinched the Divison with a three-game sweep over the Boson Red Sox on the weekend of: Sept 25-26-27th, winning their 100th game of the season on the day they clinched !!! … The Yankees regular season has been excellent … But, the Yankees goal this year [which is the same goal every year], is to “win the World Series” !!! … It will take 11 more wins in the playoffs and World Series to make this goal happen; and, only then, can all of us in the Yankees Universe call 2009 a “successful season” !!! … This has been a very special year [so far] for the New York Yankees; and, I look forward to this season ending with the Yankees winning their 27th World Championship !!!
    Take care, Babu !!!
    “Go Yankees” !!! … #27 in 2009 !!!
